Its my opinion that the concept of heaven has made countless people in our modern times to commit suicide when some tragedy happens. The thought that there is a better place and that
'I' have been filial/holy enough in my religion to be there. Since its a place without suffering, why suffer here when i can go there ?
Well we don't need to consider the people who deemed themselves not 'holy' enough because they would be scared to go to hell anyway. So they won't do any silly things to themselves.
Sure there are some religions that deter this by adding a prohibitive clause that states that if you kill yourself, you will go to hell because its not your time yet. In my opinion, this clause is necessary and constantly reminds people in duress to appreciate life. However, recently, there are many religions that only promote the concept of heaven so much that it is misinterpreted that the faster you go there the better.
That is why I feel that if you only think there is one life, the here and now, you would definitely appreciate it more and be more resilient when face with adversity. The benefit of living, however suffering, far outweighs death unless in cases of extreme torture. You would live life how you want it and by what you want to achieve in it; and not following some rules or principles that you may not agree with but have to do so anyway because well, its WRITTEN.

an interesting point of view.
ReplyDeletei had a book on sociology which stated that there were 3 kinds of suicide.
i can't rmb the first 2 but one of them is 'egoistical' suicide in which the person thinks the world would be better of without them.
here's my 2 cents: (might give people something to ponder)
ReplyDeleteLife is a gift. We didn't ask to be born, and what we make out of these few years that we have on this earth, is entirely up to what the BIG guy up there gives us, and how we respond to it. Taking one's life, might be a sign of rebellion: God, i don't like what you have given me, I'm going to end my life (in the hope of something else, perhaps better). I guess, i believe, that life is but a video game (as an illustration) , God is the game creator, providing 1-ups, health restorer points, and obstacles in the way, to better the game character, ( i mean what's the point of the game if its not challenging, and it won't improve the game character?) The Game creator desires for good outcomes for every game character. But if the game characters don't follow insructions/ rules that were given, it will not be a good result for it. it's just the natural law.. you break a law, you get punished, simple logic. If you die, it's game over, where there is not a restart game option.
